In front of a Walmart in China, there are two patriotic youths standing at the gate of Walmart with strips on their heads and pasted small five-star flags on their faces. Behind them, there is the slogan: “Resolutely boycott American products! We prefer to eat wild vegetables, in order to fight the United States to the end!” They are boycotting the American products by trying to stop every customer who tries to get in to shop at Walmart. However, they do not even know the reason and why Chinese government imposing an upcoming 25% tariffs on US soybeans and cars.
One customer passed by and explains to the patriotic youths that if China’s tariffs fall to the standard 2.5%, which it promised to the WTO when entering the organization, it would means that imported goods would be as cheap as those sold in other countries! Example, Land Rover’s Range Rover, a SUV car, Chinese government levies a 25% tariff, a 40% consumption tax, a 17% value-added tax and the purchase tax. It is worth 1.3 million yuan once it enters China! [skit 547]
